5 Things I’m adding to my Wellness Journey
To take me further in life.
1. Ignoring People
Why is it taboo to ignore people? When I say people, I mean the internet. I like Medium because it is full of knowledge. However, the further I get into my personal development the more I learn that ignorance is bliss. Not being an ignorant individual, but ignoring the things that don’t require a response. Ignoring people can be seen as both a positive and negative behavior, depending on the context and the reasons behind it. And sometimes, you simply just don’t want to be bothered.
Here are some ways ignoring people can be beneficial:
- Setting boundaries
I have a little bit of trouble when it comes to setting boundaries. I don’t mind making myself uncomfortable just to please others and I learned that not having boundaries is only detrimental to your value. Ignoring people can set a boundary you need to take your self-awareness and wellness journey to a new level.
- Avoiding Conflicts
I used to think avoiding conflict was childish or passive-aggressive, but I have learned that sometimes avoiding conflicts is the best way to protect your peace. All things don’t need a response or a meeting. In certain situations where emotions are running high, ignoring someone temporarily can be a way to de-escalate a potential conflict. Letting things cool off or die down (if it’s not that deep) can lead to a more productive conversation later on. This ability can push you to be more emotionally intelligent in the long run as well.
- Focusing on your priorities
I’m new here. I have always had some type of focus on my future, but I am easily distracted in almost any situation. Not only does focusing on yourself help you boost your lifestyle and confidence, but it helps you understand what and who deserves your precious time. Ignoring distractions or people who hinder your productivity can benefit you in accomplishing your goals and maintaining focus on what genuinely matters.
- Dealing with toxic people
Do you ever catch yourself around people who may exhibit a red flag or toxic behaviors? I’m still learning how to escape people who have toxic habits in my life. It seems so hard when you know how to love people through their flaws. It can also be hard if it’s a close friend or family member. This is when the ignoring comes in. Toxicity comes in many forms, such as manipulation, gaslighting, or even constant negativity. Ignoring individuals with these attributes can help you distance yourself from their harmful influence and maintain a healthy mental/emotional state.
2. Setting Clear Goals
I have always had goals, the hard part is executing them. Recently, it came to my attention that my goals weren’t specific enough. I know what I want, but I didn’t set clear goals because I didn’t know how.
The first step is to determine what aspects of your life you want to focus on; physical, mental health, stress management, or even spiritual growth. Next, set specific, achievable, measurable, and time-bound goals to keep yourself motivated and accountable.
Set deadlines, due dates, and reminders on your phone, and put these desires in a place where you will see them every day. I’m leaning more toward planning on physical calendars instead of apps. All I use is my journal/notebook, a 12-month calendar, and my iPhone calendar to keep me up to date if I’m away from home.
Setting goals can be so hard, I know, but I like to look at it as setting myself up for success in the future because, without goals, you’ll go nowhere (unless you’re lucky). And it’s so cool to dream about all of your desires and take risks/work to see how they’ll happen
So making my goals more clear at the beginning of this year has helped my vision become more clear and has motivated me to achieve them.
3. Eating Healthier
Food in America feels unhealthy even if it is healthy. It’s so easy to accidentally eat something bad for you because the marketing may say otherwise. That’s still no excuse to put trash in your body. What you eat is basically how you’ll feel. If you eat fast food and processed meals all the time, it affects your mental and physical. I’ve felt that firsthand.
My diet lately has been the worst it’s ever been. However, I’ve been slowly cleaning up the way I eat, in addition to working out consistently. It is improving my motivation and overall energy. The focus is to make it a lifestyle instead of having a diet. Eating healthy can be one of the best things you do for yourself, and when I say eating healthy I mean eat more WHOLE foods, less things that come in plastic. Feed your body greens, fruits, veggies, grains, nuts, etc. Here’s my Pinterest board if you would like food inspiration.
4. Staying Organized
Being an organized person takes so much work and planning it is insane. I find it so hard to plan out every week and day, but I’m finding that it’s easier to have a list of 3–5 things to get done in one day and accomplish them as you go on about your day. Having a list without time blocking is good for people who hate having days that feel extremely busy or repetitive.
Staying organized can help you give your life more structure. It creates a better environment to work and live in. A lot of people have the desire to be organized, but don’t put in the work, or obtain the ethical mindset to achieve that sense of order in their life. I want it though, so that’s why I’m implementing organization in my personal development journey.
5. Practicing Gratitude
It’s important to take the time, regularly, to be grateful for all of the positive aspects of your life. I have a small gratitude journal that I use to write down things that I’m grateful for. I am working to do better with writing those things down daily. I wrote an article with 100 Affirmations if you’re interested in reading that. Advocating for gratefulness and personal gratitude never gets old because one can be ungrateful without even realizing it. Society seems so unthankful for what they have, you can tell by how people act through social interaction and online. Life isn’t promised so it’s easy to take it for granted.
Be grateful for the people around you, the ability to read this article, to be in your present body, for your family, friends, lover, etc. I love taking a moment to realize that everything is okay and I’m not living a bad life. It’s a beautiful realization and practicing this simple habit every day can drastically improve your quality of life and perspective.
To Conclude
The things listed in this article are things I’m applying to my personal development. It’s just about becoming a better person for myself and my surroundings. Everyone deserves to live better lives and have a piece of the pie. Of course, the world is going to be in shambles, but if everyone focuses on making themselves a better person then the world would slowly become a better place.
Thank you for reading❤
Always,
