Finding Peace of Mind
Peace /peas/
- Freedom from disturbance; tranquility
- A state or period in which there is no war or a war has ended.
Protecting your peace is vital. I believe people desire to know the feeling of peace, but donāt know how to acquire it. Learning what āpeaceā means to you involves spending time alone so you can find things that bring you peace. That brings us to our first tip: Spend time alone.
Make Time For Yourself
Being able to spend time alone is something a lot of people donāt have the mental strength to do. The mind is a powerful thing which is why a lot of people fear being alone. Youāll get in your head and itās easy to enter a downward spiral of negative thoughts.
Making time for yourself means doing things you love every day.
For example, my favorite act of self-care is having a cup of tea in the morning. I love how the warmness from the tea wakes up the rest of my body. It feels like an extra push in the morning, or even at night. However, there are plenty of other things you can do while spending time alone. Just think of your favorite thing to do (take a walk, have morning coffee, make a playlist, read a book, etc.) and do it. This sounds as simple as it is.
Additionally, itās important to practice solitude. I read an article that said people who can be by themselves are more likely to obtain blissfulness.
Research shows that people who are comfortable with time alone experience increased happiness and better stress management.
Being able to identify what brings you personal pleasure comes with practice and spending time with yourself.
Say No
Thereās some weird stigma around the word ānoā that should be canceled. Iām not sure why most are intimidated by the two-letter word, but I think it should be used more. If people were more comfortable with saying no, the world would handle things differently. The only thing worse than saying no all the time is saying yes all the time.
Saying no helps you establish healthy boundaries and enables others to have clarity about what they can expect from you.
Stop Negative Thoughts
Itās easy to get stuck in your mind. All it takes is one bad thought that can ruin your day.
What is the main cause of negative thinking?
Many things can cause you to have nasty thoughts in your head. Such as A common cold, exhaustion, stress, hunger, sleep deprivation, even allergies can make you depressed, which leads to negative thoughts. In many cases, depression can be caused by negative thinking, itself.
My favorite thing to do when I feel myself starting to think negatively is saying āNope Not Todayā and keep it pushing. Sometimes I say it out loud to distract myself from the situation around me. This is small but extremely impactful.
Be The Main Character
The term ābeing the main characterā has recently become more popular as people are learning to be themselves instead of looking up to the people they may follow online, or even the people in their lives who may be their āgoalsā. The fact of the matter is that itās easy to compare yourself to people you donāt know. Bringing us back to the point of being the main character in your own life. āFocusing on yourselfā sounds so clichĆ©, but when youāre present in your life itās so peaceful. You learn to make decisions based on how you feel and what you want, youāre able to identify what makes you happy, and more importantly, you run your mind instead of letting your mind run you.
To conclude, just be you.
Always,
Sunny
